What is the difference between w and y rated tires

Tyre speed ratings. Tyre speed ratings tell you the maximum speed that particular tyre is legally approved for. Speed rating on a tyre sidewall. How is the speed rating calculated? Most common tyre speed ratings, speeds and vehicle usage. Get tires with the same speed rating.

Tire speed rating is not like a speed limit posted on highway signs. Is your vehicle properly aligned? How hot is the road? Have you ever had a flat repaired? Important Notice: The information provided above is derived from sources deemed reasonably reliable. Each letter in the speed rating represents a maximum speed based on a standard chart. The main things to know: Generally, the higher in the alphabet a tire is rated, the better it will manage heat and faster speeds.

Personally I worked in the tire industry for almost 10 years and this is of the utmost importance on AWD and 4WD vehicles. As it can actually mess with those systems. You are saying the vehicle came from the factory this way?? Re: W and Y rated tyres You certainly should feel a difference between those 2 ratings when cornering.

The Y speed rated tire will feel stiffer given the same sidewall height than the W. These two speed ratings will feel different across the performance spectrum. If you want to prove this to yourself, go push your car a bit through the twisties. Then do a straight rotation front to rear and do it again. It seems to me, Continentals and Michelins are the best performance tires. Cheap tires - with cheaper sidewalls. Probably best left for a tire swing.

Re: W and Y rated tyres Hi there. Thanks for your input. All city driving. The tyres are Bridgestone-made in Poland. Re: W and Y rated tyres. Originally Posted by The Driver. Brandt K. Go run the car through the twisties hard, not 75 mph straight down the middle, push them a bit and then rotate the tires front to rear.
