Once you've uploaded your music to Ditto and it's been accepted by Spotify this can take a few days , it'll be available in your Spotify for Artists upcoming releases. It's best to upload to Ditto with plenty of time to spare and pitch early.

Spotify's curators have to go through thousands and thousands of playlist submissions every day, so the earlier you pitch, the better your chance of getting heard. Also, you can only submit one track per release. So if you're releasing an album or EP, have a good think about which track is most likely to get picked up by playlists. We've only covered the basics here, but we've got a whole other article on submitting music for playlists to Spotify directly here. So go check that out.

There are thousands of popular independent Spotify playlists out there created by all sorts of curators - from blogs, media outlets and industry folk to just your average Spotify users. Spend a few hours searching through Spotify to find playlists that would suit your sound , make a note of who owns the playlist and head to Google.

A bit of Google searching can throw up the contact details you need to start submitting to the playlists you've chosen as targets. It'll usually be an email address or maybe a submission form on their website. Make sure to keep your email short, polite and informative with prominent links to your music on Spotify. Rather than being curated by Spotify's staff, they're created by the platform's algorithms. Getting onto a listener's Release Radar playlist is simple. Just get them to follow you on Spotify. Whenever you release new music, it'll appear the Release Radar playlist of everyone who follows you. Spotify UK's director of artists and management has previously stated that Release Radar alone generates more streams than any of Spotify's self-curated playlists.

There is nothing specific you can do to get on an algotorial playlist. Some playlists like New Music Friday update each week with a full slate of new content. Our goal is to program all kinds of tracks across a variety of playlists, moods, activities, and genres that we think listeners will enjoy.

Additionally, many of our moods and moments-based playlists are catered to surfacing a wide variety of musical styles, genres and artists and work well to introduce varied music and artists to wider audiences. All pitches made through our tool in Spotify for Artists are made available to our entire global editorial team. Music speaks to us in more ways than numbers. We put listening first. And, we also look at what is happening in culture, artists pushing the boundaries, and always consider a myriad of music characteristics when curating from bpm and tempo to song structure and key signature.

For instance for Juneteenth our regular New Music Friday playlist was made up of entirely Black artists and we feature local artists in our New York City playlists.

We always try and tag when a song is explicit within a playlist. There are also some playlists and audiences where we won't include explicit tracks such as the Coffee Shop Vibes playlist, such as in our Spotify Kids programming, and so forth.

Although we understand how important feedback is to your journey and growth as an artist, it is simply impossible for us as we get too many pitches to respond to each one individually—it would take time away from our focus on listening to and curating as many songs from as many artists as possible.

Each of our editors are unique and work differently, but they all constantly seek inspiration from different music publications and cultural moments as well as what artists are highlighting on their own artist pages and playlists. We don't look at distribution information when listening to new pitches. For a complete list of all the distributors we work with, check out our provider directory. Songs can be added to playlists regardless of their length, however we recommend putting your best foot when pitching by sharing your best track.

Thanks to everyone who submitted questions via Instagram. July 23, This piece is part of our ongoing mission to create a greater sense of understanding around playlisting. Spotify for Artists helps you to develop the fanbase you need to reach your goals.
